1958 Trans Portable Radios

I recently purchased two Trans Portable radios. Both are in excellent cosmetic condition. One works, one doesn't. I took the covers off, but I couldn't identify the battery source.

Is there a website or technical source I can tap to gain a better understanding of these radios? How do you charge them? Can the batteries be changed? Is there a source for the batteries? What does the dash radio look like? Where might I find one for sale?

Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You should be able to track down a copy of the Howard Sams repair info on those radios. Try ebay or some of the antique radio sites on the web for someone who commonly deals in them.

hi, unless i'm mistaken, the 1958 olds transportable radio is also the dash's radio, because that's where it is stored, in the dash, and used as the car's regular radio. the battery is getting recharged while the radio is plugged into the dash. it wasn't untill 1959, when oldsmobile moved the transportable to the inside of the glovebox. charles coker, 1953 pontiac tech advisor.
