Reading Show Parking

I was signing up for the Reading show when I noticed parking for trailers is $25. And to add" insult to injury" the parking is over 4 miles from the show field. I know reading traffic can be terrible,even on a week end. I don't want to drive a Senior car 4 miles in traffic then clean it up and be ready for the show. When I called ,I was told"thats the way it was" and other shows do it. If 'I'm wrong and out of linne, I'm sure I'll be reading about it in my thread. Does anyone else feel this way? or am I just a whinner?? I can afford the extra $25. but principle has me staggared !

I too thought that was a bit strange. I have paid for storage before when it was in a separate well-secured (fenced) lot overnight, so I am assuming that the lot owners (Outlets, I believe)want to collect for this space and security. But do we know what that security will be?

I think what many of us are seeking is reassurance! I have already been sent a private message from someone from the area who said that in Reading, if a guard was standing next to your car for 24 hours straight, it would be stolen before he could turn around! I don't know whether to park in the hotel lot or leave my car on the show field. I'd gladly pay $25.00 to have the area patrolled. When I stayed for the banquet in Hershey, I roomed at the Wyndom (ex Marriot) and was cleaning my car at dusk when an SUV came flying up! I was asked to prove it was my car and what I was doing with it! You can't imagine the comforting feeling, knowing that someone was watching and it would still be there the next morning!

Is this a $25.00 fee per registration or per trailer. I planned to bring 3 cars all prewar due to the fact it's relatively close. I have no problem chipping in for security and piece of mind but it seems to me the $25 fee in Bristol was right at the showfield not five miles away. I realize we are all volunteers and should not have to listen to all the criticism. It just seems to me its the cars that make the meet and I would want to make it as user friendly for all to attend and get the cars, racecars,bicycles, motorcycles to come out and give everyone the same treatment. Where is the Vanity Fair parking lot for trailers and will the lot have a guard Saturday night until Sunday.

This will be my first AACA event. To be candid, I think the parking, show field, hotel arrangement is awful.

I can understand if the parking is "next door" to the hotel, but to have 700+ vehicles trekking through the "nicer parts of Reading" for 4 miles here and 4 miles there is poor planning in my opinion.

Try that with the NCRS guys!? I don't think it would fly. Even the VCCA group does a better job of finding adequate facilites for the event.

Now about that $25.00. I sure hope they have security - because I CAN justify the charge if they do.

Personally, I think the AACA would have been better off capping the event size to prevent this rather difficult parking/hotel scenario.

That's my opinion.

I feel bad for the guys with ultra rare wheel covers. Surely, a few will probably walk. Amazing how those covers "get away".

Now engine parts have me concerned..... rare intakes/carbs/air cleaners.

Its a sad world when you have to review your auto insurance policy to make sure you have adequate coverage before the event!

Immediately following the AACA meet, the HCCA is having a Sunday pre-WWII flea market, Sunday pre-'16 car show, and 4-day (Monday through Thursday) pre-'16 tour from Reading. There will be over 75 brass-era cars parked in (mostly, but not all) closed trailers. Everything will take place in the SAME parking lot that the AACA is using for this meet. This will be the FOURTH consecutive year that this HCCA event has taken place from the SAME location. Believe me, if vandalism had been a problem in past years, we'd be somewhere else. Lighten up, guys! Come and enjoy your meet!

By the way, you all have a heartfelt welcome to enjoy our car show and browse (and maybe buy from!) our flea market on Sunday while you're retrieving your cars for the ride home.
