Our (understanding wife) first trip to the Rhinebeck meet.

A WELL organized show. Many cars and loads of beautiful examples. Lucked out on the weather, just great.

Well worth the 3 1/2 hour drive.

We went yesterday, great ride up and back in the SL, even managed to stuff a 700 X 16 tire in the back for another forum member! Nice show, saw Dandy Dave's Buick again this year, but he was out and about, along with some other nice cars in the show. Some highlights this year, a beautiful green Pierce, a Porsche Speedster and a very nice MGTF. Tons of SLs - lots of marques very well represented. As noted, a little bit of everything. Not too much to buy this year, but otherwise it was a great day.

We did spy a red MGTD with a "for sale" sign on the show field. Why do people not bother to leave even the most basic of information - price, and a couple other comments if they are seriously selling? Tonnue cover on, all buttoned up?? Why not just put a car cover on it next time? :D

THANKS to the organizers for a well run show. :)

Saw Dandy Dave driving the Chatruese Lady up Route 9 and stopped when he did to introduce myself through the window of my truck. Nice to "meet" you, DD!

Great show this year. More cars than ever, and the weather was fantastic.

:)I got there Sat. about 830, drove in to my spot almost like I knew where I was going. Was real impressed with the whole meet. Best swap meet Ive been to out side of Hershey. Sold enough to pay for the trip, got to soak up some sun,but best of all I got to talk with friends I knew, lots I met and just leave all the troubles on the doorstep. Dandy Dave stopped by and I got to meet him for the first time. We talk on the forum but I had never met him. I told my daughter I would have to find the picture of DD mowing the lawn in his special work uniform LOL, sorry Dave she declined. All in all, next best thing to Hershey

Great Show Wow that v12 Pierce is nice. and I could look at that Fiat all day. Rhinbeck has really become a high quality car show, and for me a 35 mile drive over really nice roads. The weather was perfect, the organization was terrific, and I even got to meet a few fellow discussion forum-ers.

Hope to see everyone at the next show

Chris

Almost forgot to mention how much I love seeing that original 1922 Case

It sure was good to meet some of you that I have not met before. Windjammer and I reminisced about all sorts of automotive problems of the past. Old 48 Truck, I wish we had met earlier in the show. Glad you pulled over to check on me. How did you think the Chartreuse lady did out on the highway for a 97 year old car? For those I missed. May we rub elbows somewhere along the automotive highway someday.

That's the V12 Pierce I saved from burning up a few years ago. The owner, who is a good friend of mine, was getting ready for a tour and I was working on a car for his neighbor and saw him pull in his driveway. I walked over with my camera in hand to get some photos as the car was outside. You could smell the gas. I asked him to pop the hood for some photos and then I could see the gas spraying on the exhaust manifold from a piece of dry rotted fuel line where an inline fuel filter was installed. I got him to shut it off immediately. I pulled the bad hose off and he walked to his shop and found a new piece. I replaced it and the car ran well for the tour. Must have been fate. If he toured with it that way I am sure it would have burned when the manifold got good and hot. After the repair, he stuck a $10 bill in my Speedo. :D LOL... Dandy Dave!

The Chartreuse Lady did fine on the road, Dave. She ran a steady 40 mph, and even got up to 44 at one point. She got a lot of interest out there on the road, too. There were lots of thumbs up and open jaws as you went by, but not much notice was given to the string of show vehicles trailing you.

........:D The Locals think I'm crazy driving around in a 97 year old car. It always does turn a lot of heads out on the road. Half of the Thrill of the show is Diving there. Dandy Dave!

For those interested in pre-WWII swap meets, there will be on Sunday morning, May 20, in Reading PA. It will be located where the trailer parking is for the AACA judging meet that will have taken place the day before, but this is an HCCA-sposored event.

Any photos from the Sunday festivities at Rhinebeck? It's been many years since I've been there--have to get back again soon...

I did not take a camera. Several highlights of the show. There was a 1907 Knox that was absolutly gorgeous. It had a 4 cylinder air cooled engine with overhead valves. My long time tractor collecting friend Ed, returned to the winners circle with his American built Fiat. And of course, the 1933 V-12 Pierce. Dandy Dave!

Dave,

I would rephrase your comment - 90% of the thrill would be driving there with your car, not 50% you suggested.

John

LOL.... how about 50% Getting there, 10 % Showing, and 40% Getting Home.... That's 90 % road time. ;) Dandy Dave!
