Guest JosR
Good morning gents, thanks to all for the advice which helped me get my recently aquired model 35 back on the road. However my outing last night was short lived:eek: Since the day I fired the engine up for the first time I noticed a detergent like foaming/bubbling while I drove the car a normal RPM's. I figured this was due to a previous owner mistakenly adding some type of detergent to the cooling system. The car runs cool so it is not overheating. I flushed the system a handful of times and still had the issue. AS of late as the car heats up it starts running very poorly and spitting through the carb when I give it more gas going down the road. I thought this issue to be a head gasket issue and puilled the head. It is not. I beleive I have a crack somewhere which is compressing/pushing gases/oil into the cooling system and causing the foaming. The head was completey gone through from the previous owner but the lower end was not so I knew it was a crap shoot. Can I pull the cylinder casting off the lower block? I beleive its time for rebore or possible cylinder sleeve job and re-ring. It's worth mentioning that I do have a fair amount of oil/gas on every plug:( I did go through the rotating assembly and reshimmed all bearings so all is well there. Sorry for the long winded post! Also, does anyone know what the factory bore size is for this eninge so I can research rings/pistons if needed? Thanks, Jos Roach 714 614-3396
Leif Holmberg
Bore 3 3/8 stroke 4,75 .Yes you can remove the cylinder block, but if you are reboring the cylinder I think you need to have new connecting rod bearings and crankshaft bearings castened. If you just put new rings you can try adjusting the bearings with the shims that already are there. When you have removed the block you can put one piston on top and feel if there are any play, then next ,and next.If you have a good oil pressure I don`t think you need to do adjusting. My 4 cyl 1923 and 1924 use to throw out oil on the spark plugs and then it sounds as a bubbling too. Leif in Sweden.

I just think its's time for new rings and a rebore at the very least. I obviously need to get the cylinders and head magged to identifiy where the crack is at to have that repaired as well. Thanks for your quick reply on the bore size! Jos
