airbrushguy
Just took the side rear glass out of my model 60 and when I placed it on a sheet of white vinyl I noticed that it appears to be tinted...green!I had planned to replace it with a light smoke grey tint just to keep interior cool and grey because it's painted dark blue. Now that I know the old glass was green, I'm reconsidering the color tint.Anyone replace their glass with tinted glass or just have a suggestion/opinion?Thanks
1939_Buick
Doubt if it was tinted by BuickMy guess its a replacement or just old age.
airbrushguy
You might be right, but it's the driver's vent window and the passenger side rear door window....same green color.
Barney Eaton
There was no "tinted" glass option in '
Guest Grant Magrath
Is there a factory mark on the glass? I'd have to agree with Barney on this one.CheersGrant
jscheib
Was there not a period of time where there was a slight grren tint to auto glass? I seem to recall, but it was not very heavy. More like "Ball" jars for canning, if any of you are old enough to remember. Just my recollection.John
Terry Stock
On our Special (many Century embelishments in NZ) the windscreen, rear and front ¼ glass were replaced when we did a repaint in the 1980s.But 6 pieces of the side glass are probably original. When we got the car in 1980 I noticed the light green tint in the side glass. The same light green tint is still there and it is not clear like the replacement front ¼s.Memory is hazy but I think the rear glass was the light green tint too.The 6 pieces are "Safety Plate Glass". There is a little shield with the letters "LOF". Five of the panes have "4 39" and one has "3 39".
1939_Buick
My view its just the plastic layer inside the safety glass changing color over the decades. Sometimes this de-laminates
Terry Stock
Could be, but see what you make of this and the discussion on the use of chromium as a hardener.Extravagance Meets Austerity | Hemmings Motor News

Guest Grant Magrath
I did see a green 39 sedan with green tinted windows once. I thought it looked pretty cool at the time. I think Google will be your best bet there.CheersGrant
42crazy
I replaced the passenger side rear door glass on my 61-A and it was green. So, it might be from the plastic. All the glass is original, and all green tint.
