Guest GaWajn
Hi,I have started to gather the book I need for the restoration of my 1952 Pontiac Catalina.I already have the 1949 - 53 Hydramatic transmission book and the 1949-50 Shop Manual.I need to get a 1949 Fisher ''B'' Body book. If anyone has one for sale ... please contact me. I have looked on ebay for the past couple of weeks ... and only ''A'', ''C'', and station wagon books are available for the time being.I also need the 1951 shop manual supplement (US ... not Canadian). Also ... I would be interested in some Craftsman Service News bulletins that are apropriate for my car. I already have the 1953 bulletins.A master parts manual would also be usefull. The only one I found was on ebay ... but at $150 ... I will shop around ...thanks a bunchStephen
poci1957
Hi Stephen, note that Pontiacs used the A body, not B, so that is the material you need. But the 1949 manual will not cover the Catalina hardtop since it did not arrive until 1950.Check EBay for 1950-51 Pontiac Fisher Body Service News. These supplements were issued to update previous models and there is one for the new hardtops. Good luck, Todd c
Guest woodbine
Stephen,I have found that the early Chilton motor age will give you a lot of the mechanical part numbers that you need plus illustrations and will also give you some service info with illustrations,a lot cheaper way to go until you find a reasonable master parts book,i have a few from the late 40s early 50s if interestedGeorge P
Guest GaWajn
Thank you woodbine, but I would rather go the other way and get the correct book from the get go. In the long run ... it will be more cost effective that way. I live a long way off, and shipping is expensive. Doing shipping twice on the same type of material is not the way to go for me. Thank you anyways.
poci1957
Hey Stephen, while you are waiting for a decent deal on a parts manual take a look at Pontiac Custom Safari 55 56 & 57 . This site is from a friend from the Pontiac Oakland Club and includes a complete 1956 Master Parts Catalog which has most of what you will need for a 1952. Check out the site, you will be impressed, Todd C
Guest GaWajn
Thank you poci1957. I have already been there. You are right ... it is mostly what I need. If I could find a hard copy of that book, I would be all set.
poci1957
Do you know you can copy it to your own computer? Then you can print pages you need.
Guest GaWajn
Yes I know, but I would like to have an original book. It's like we like to have NOS parts instead of reproductions if we can. They might look the same, but it's the satisfaction of knowing you have original items i guess. Call me foolish ... but I prefer an original book. I just need to find one at a reasonable price.
