'56 Golden Hawk air cleaner question ...

Recommended Posts

One end mounts upon the carb, the other sits on a brace on the passenger side. Am I correct in thinking that it is actually a 2 piece assembly, the top comes off so that oil can be added to the segment mounted on the brace? If so, how in the name of goodness does one get the 2 pieces apart ...? I have tried a number of ways (rubber mallet etc) but no luck ...

There should be a wing nut under the brace which screws onto a stud that goes right through the aircleaner and holds the whole assembly together. Loosen the carb end fist, remove the wing nut and hold the assembly together as you lift it off otherwise you'll spill the oil.
