1930 Steering wheel restoration help wanted

I would really like some suggestions as to restoring a 1930 Chrysler steering wheel. It had some cracks on the bottom side around the hub which I have repaired with 2 part epoxy. I would like to coat the whole wheel with something to seal it up. Is there a special coating for this or would a 2 part epoxy paint do the job? It would not have the same feel as the original, so I'm wondering what others have used. Thanks for your help

I just did a caddy one and I shaved thin ribbons of material off an old wheel and melted it in MEK untill it became like a paste and used the melted wheel to fill the cracks and then let it dry and sanded it. I was going to paint it with Dupont base clear.
