Guest T-Head
We also have this slightly later McDonald's photo from Dearborn Heights, Mich. taken in 1965. If you go to theoldmotor.com you can see enlargement of the photo and a Goggle street view of were it used to be. There is also an interesting comment by a reader that managed a Sonoco station nearby and sold gas to the drivers from Ford High Performance Division, just down the street where they built the 427 Ford Thunderbolts. stock_steve
Wow, another neat shot. What is the story with those apparent "coat of arms" symbols on the sign and the building? Was that something regional, or did all early McD's have them?
TG57Roadmaster
Stumbled across this McD's a few years ago in Des Plaines, IL, the first one built after the coporation was formed,it opened April 15, 1955 and serves as a museum/study center. It's gated, the grounds have been altered, and as LINC400 said in the other thread, it has old cars in the parking lot in summer months.LargerLater on a trip to L.A., ran across this McD's in Downey, CA, (that Bleach mentioned), the third built before the corporation was formed; it's the oldest one in continuous service.LargerLargerThe prices have changed in Downey, but the setup is the same as when it was new; go to the window, place an order, and eat in your car. The vintage pics are way cooler than modern ones, and this is what the Des Plaines McD's looked like back in the day (night)... From a stock photo at Answers.com; it's a huge pic.TG Edited January 2, 2012 by TG57Roadmaster (see edit history)
