WillBilly53
Soooooo... I'd like to turn the engine by hand before I take the plunge and start her up for the first time. I'm still trying to seat the distributor properly and set the timing. Both the engine and trans were rebuilt and its never been started. I assumed it rotates clockwise but when I try it doesn't budge at all. I want to make sure there's not something I'm missing. I'm using a 10" socket wrench with a 1" fitting. Any ideas? buick5563
Get a bigger wrench, especially if there are spark plugs installed. Clockwise, yes.
Guest NikeAjax
Do you know the trick where you prime the oil pump by using a drill with a screw driver blade inserted? You stick it down the distributor shaft and spin it 'til it slows down radically: this will fill the galleys no problem at all, so you don't have to think about it oiling once you get 'er started!Jaybird
WillBilly53
Thank you! I primed the oil pump and got the distributor seated!
