'39 Deck lid lenses

After painting the car and pieces I tried to attach the Buick Eight lenses I bought from some vendor at a show and realize they are too big for the frame. The frame was purchased without lenses a while ago and I guess I must be dealing with a different year frame than lenses.

The opening is an inch and a half at it's widest point (nearest the emblem0 and about 3 5/8" wide.

Could I have a '40 frame?

Does anyone know what I have, so I can look for the appropriate lenses to fit?

Thanks

Surprisingly I have two frames. The one that was on the car and is now beautifully painted and another that I got at a swap meet. The new lenses fit the swap meet frame but not the painted frame.

Wasn't '39 and '40 the only years with lights like this that were close to the same size? Everything I check says '39-'40 are interchangeable.

I know they had these on '41s and later but they were different proportions and didn't have the same cloisonne emblem as these.

Could I have something aftermarket or maybe these lenses are bad knock-offs?

Any thoughts?

Wow, He is right. It inspired me to A, go dig out a parts list and B, go check what I had in the shed. I have several '39 bodies with the same part number as yours and a '40 body so it seems. The 1 only body does have a bit bigger lenses and unless you put 1 over the other it's almost impossible to pick. Here endeth my '39 Buick lesson for the day.

For what it's worth, I dug out the lenses I got must be 20-25 years ago, and they were in a box with the name DICK & SKIP BOYER on it. The address was 230 DeGuy St, Hanover, PA, 17331. I don't know if that will help any as I can't really remember getting them.

I have seen these pop up on ebay regularly and they usually state '39-'40. Just something else to be aware of.

Good luck with the hunt.

I think this is the bloke.

"Boyer's Restorations in Pennsylvania sells interior plastic parts for Buicks 1937 and later. Don't get all excited; these are definitely "repro", but the prices are low. Write for catalog: 1348 Carlisle Pike, Hanover, PA 17331, or call 717-632-0670"

There is a set of NOS on ebay (Great Bend, Kansas) right now.

Measurements stated to be "3 3/4" long and 1 13/16"" They also claim to be 1939-1940 so you would need to check those measurements.

Item 190620084273.

You would need the BUICK EIGHT letters too. They used to be available from Bobs, but I don't see them there now.

Good to see you're still with Grant. It seem that there's hardly a day goes by lately without hearing about another quake in Christchurch. So that's who Bardroy is !! I was thinking about getting the maroon plastic horn centre from him off ebay the other day.

Yep! Still here! Although not on the forum for a week or so. The family and I are staying over the hill in Akaroa, so we don't feel anything under a high 4, and then its a gentle shake. Been a bit cool over the past 2 days, but we hope to go for a waterski tomorrow. Apparently, they've had 48 quakes in one day! Glad I'm not there!

Cheers

Grant
