Guest Classicjerry
We are working on a 1909 Buick F and have the motor apart ot evaluate the condition. Some work was done on this motor before we got it and we are trying to fix/figure out/restore what was done to get it running again. It appears the crank needs to be trued up and we've been told this cannot be done on current crank machines because of counterbalance interference. Also, if we were to gring the crank down, what is allowable to get down to and still have acceptable stength? What should the crank dimension be? Any help or comments will be appreciated. Thanks, Jerry

Dandy Dave
I agree, Brass Buicks is an excellent site for your very early car. My take on your problem, The car was made in 1909. The crank was manufactured then and can be re-made, or reworked today. You may need to find a shop with older equipment to get it done. They're out there. You should first have it magnafluxed, or x rayed, for cracks. If it is cracked and fatiuged, you will need to have a new one made. there are shops that will do this also. If it is not cracked, and the diameter is too small, it can be welded, and then re-machined. Dandy Dave!
