1936 D2
Hi amigo. You really should start your own thread for your '36 question. But here goes anyway. The quick answer is... The rear single connection to the coil is the battery hot connection fromthe ignition switch. The other primary connection on the top of the coil goes to the distributor. On the car, the hot switched connection is normally inside an armored flex housing to help prevent "hotwiring". So you should be able to set up this spare coil with switch controlled power from the negative battery supply (maybe from near the starter) to use the spare to run the car. dwollam
I would guess Rick that you set your car pic as your signature?
1936 D2
Click on the "User CP" menu at the top of this forum page. Look down the left side of that page for "Edit Signature". Then look down that page - second section for "Signature" info and remove any link to attachments in there that point to the photo if you don't want it to show on all your posts. (Nice looking car BTW!) ;-)
32bizcoupe
Exactly, In other words take a test light and whichever contact on the old coil lights up- only when the key is turned-is the wire that should go to the "new" coil. Now where that wire goes from there - re read this thread.
1936 D2
32biz... Yup, that'll work as long as the points are not in an arbitrarily "closed" position. (Chances are that would not be the case. But if your luck is like mine - they would be closed!) Anyway, if they are closed, the test light will light on both connectors of the coil because power is flowing through the coil at that time which would not be helpful for this style of testing. This of course assumes the test light is connected to ground as they usually are.
