Material for inside the trunk?

The trunk area of my 37 Pontiac has never been touched, and I plan on doing this in the near future. Even though there is surface rust, it doesn't appear to be too bad, except for a couple of holes in the tool compartment in the very back. There is a piece of plywood that has definately seen better days. Also, I noticed the remains of some type of padding or material that looks to have been lined the inside of the trunk. It looks to have been glued, but I'm not sure. It also looks to be original with the car.

Does anyone know what type of material this is/was? It kind of resembles a type of felt, but this is only a guess. Is there a proper name for this lining that I need to ask for, and where can I find it? Also, was this stuff originally glues into place?

Thank you for any info that you can give.

For whatever this is worth: The 36 Chevrolet Standard Town Sedan had burlap glued to the sides of the trunk and a black cardboard panel tacked onto the seatback that faced into the trunk. The plywood was painted kind of a taupe color--I found good samples remaining on the underside (where it had dripped) and had regular enamel paint mixed to match. Interesting to note that the remains of the original cardboard had this taupe paint slopped up on it (brush painted) and the underside of the plywood wasn't painted completely--they apparently didn't take too many pains for neatness from the factory! I've seen other 36 Chevy's with this same trunk color and configuration.

Hampton Coach used to make this trunk kit for GM products--not sure if still available.

I didn't know if they had originally painted the inside of the trunks with a thick material, you know, do deaden the road noise. I just want to put back on what it originally had. At this point, I just can't tell.
