Never use hammers and metal tools on glass.

Use a mild solvent such as lighter fluid to soften the old adhesive and spring open the metal frame just a little. It should nearly fall out.

Or take it to a glass shop and have them do it. They will likely do it for free if you buy the adhesive from them to reset the glass in the frame. They can cut the glass for the broken vent and some can even date code it.
