Calling All Vermonters

To All Vermont Antique Car Fans,

I am writing to ask your support of Vermont House Bill 40, which would permit registering antique cars with license plates from the year of a car's manufacture. Back in January, with help from my state representative, House Bill 40 was drafted and sent to the House Transportation Committee in February. While to me this bill makes perfect sense - it would bring Vermont into line with the practice of surrounding states for antique cars, could be a source of added revenue, and would delight owners of antique cars - it's competing with other bills which are much more pressing. Unfortunately, the bill may never leave the Transportation Committee without a show of support.

The best way to get House Bill 40 reviewed by the Transportation Committee and sent to the House and Senate for their consideration is for Vermonters to register their support of the bill with their state representatives. The time to do this is now - in the next week - while agendas are being prepared for the 2012 session. Notes should be brief (!) and express the writer's own feelings about the value of having period plates. I suggest sending the note to your "Vermont House representative, with copies to your state Senators and to the Chair of the House Transportation Committee (Patrick Brennan, at pbrennan@leg.state.vt.us).
