I now have my 1950 2 door home. The back seats is shot, and I don't have

the front seat. I intend to put in a set out of a newer car. My question is has

anybody changed the seats in their car to know what fits with out major

fabrication. I had a 84 Park Avenue and I loved the seats they were great,

but I have no idea IF a set would work (too wide or too narrow). I intend to

kept this car so I would like it to look right. There are two salavage yards close

that have 70-80 plus newer cars available, and the price is $25 - $30 for a

front seat or back seat. So what fits???

You can measure the width of the mounting bolts from side to side that will give you your base line. Big buicks and Cadillac share bodies so through 1953 should bolt right in. As the bodies got wider so did the mounting holes. So you can measure the newer stuff or use the 60/40 seats and add new mounting hardware. Electrics will be 12 volt so you will have a slow moving seat on 6 volts.

Hey James, can you kinda explain what you mean by "looking right" while talking about putting 70-80's seats in a 50's car? I'm not being a wise guy but just wondering how to make a suggestion because I can't envision later model car seats looking right in a 50's Buick.

James,

Also not wanting to be a wise guy but this seems to be a difficult route to take for something that is definately not going to look right when installed.

When you say the back seats are shot - are we talking springs rusted/broken or gone? Nothing is going to fit in the rear from a modern/newer car. If you have the remains of rear seats repairing them and having them recovered would be the easiest way to go.

Many things to consider when insalling a newer front seat. On the 1950 2 door models the seats have a lower back than any newer ( 80/90's ) cars and you are restricted to a split back to enable access to the rear seat. Then you have the issue of the underseat heater and venting/direction shields.

The original seats are very comfortable and are easily recovered. Why don't you try and source a front seat from any 1950/51/52 2 door Buick ( any Series I think ) and have it recovered? I'm pretty sure if you advertised on this forum there would be plenty of offers of an original seat.

This way you would maintain originality of a great car and be assured it will " look right ".

Good luck which ever way you go - and how about some photos!!!!!

By looking right ,I mean that fit width and depth.

I'm thinking about installing a custom interior, I did van conversions.

As to finding a 50 seat and redoing it, so far I have found the price looks about

$400 -$500 a seat. The under seat heater is one thing I'm thinking about

changing to a under dash unit. This is NOT going to be a quick fix.

You asked for pictures, here are a few that show the car.

The other pictures are just the parts.
