Could anyone help me with the proper way to remove the front springs on my 1938 120 PACKARD ? Also not sure how to remove the thermastat in the goose neck.

I hate to sound condesending, but, if you can't figure out how to change a thermostat you shouldn't be attempting to dissamble the front suspension.

On some cars the springs are under tension and require a spreader for leaf springs and compressors for coil springs. Some leaf spring do not have tension at rest and you just remove the shackles and the u-bolts.

Post your question under the Packard forum, and, get a copy of the service manual for your car. Search the internet and you should find one in DVD format, or, check epay there are people on there that sell reproductions of service manuals.
