1941 Buick Speedometer

Recommended Posts

Tim, Bobs Speedometer at Bob's Speedometer does good work. Give them a call. I had mine rebuilt for about $260. Or do a search on the web and you will find quite a few instrument repair places.

Final price usually depends on the repairs and restoration needed. A basic speedometer rebuild, on average, runs $150. Parts, odometer refinishing, etc. increase the invoice. Is your current speedometer doing/not doing anything in particular? What is the cosmetic scenario?

I looked at a 41 Buick several months back. All the gauge faces were warped because of the plastic used on them. The speedometer needle was stuck because of it. I have a feeling it may be a common problem.

The needle for the mph works just wanting to get the mileage and trip meter working they just recently quit the cosmetic's are still in pretty fair shape.

If the cosmetic condition is satisfactory then it shouldn't take too much to get it going. You most likely have worn out 1st/2nd worm gears, which is common for that design. You should expect that your speedometer will require a magnet shaft, 2nd worm cross shaft and potentially require the frame to be machined and bushed.
