alfourfire
Picked up an old tool box and want to refurbish it. I am cleaning up the drawer slides and I want to lube them properly. White lithium grease comes to mind. What is recommended so they don't load up? It is an older Matco so there are no ball bearings but the glides are in decent shape. I'll call the Matco rep. regarding newer glides and paint, but members tips are best. Thanks:
nickelroadster
Most likely , any petroleum based product would be absorbed by the wood and would stain and swell the slides I have always used paraffin as a lube for wooden drawers. An easy way to do it is to take a candle and drip paraffin on the slides.
alfourfire
Thanks for the reply, but these are metal slides. Similar to most drawer slides, they tend to gunk up after a while. I wish they were ball-bearing, but this box is an older one. WD-40 or PB Blaster will work for a while, but I think it will "load up" after a while. Any thoughts on the lithium?Rick.
