SACO, Maine (AP) — A Maine man and his car are celebrating a million-mile milestone.Joe LoCicero (luh-SISS'-er-oh) was given a 2012 Honda Accord at a parade in the city of Saco on Sunday after surpassing the million-mile mark on the odometer of his 1990 Accord. He reached the milestone last Thursday.A Honda spokeswoman tells The Portland Press Herald (bit.ly/otOqd1) it's the first time the manufacturer has documented an Accord reaching one million miles.LoCicero says he bought the car in 1996 with 74,000 miles. The former mechanic did much of his own work. The secret he says is following maintenance schedules, using quality parts and driving safely.He swears the transmission and engine are original.Now that he has a new Accord, he's not sure what he'll do with the old one. ( World's Highest Mileage Car 2010 World Record set by 1966 Volvo P1800 | World Amazing Records - Latest Amazing World Record Feats )Of course it's possible to beat that with average over a shorter time span. 4868 miles per week each and every week over 4 years is pretty impressive (1,012,572 miles, 2006-2010, although the F-250 needed a new engine @ 400,000 miles). Same with stories of folks that are the original owners and are still present owners of cars bought back like in the fifties, sixties or further back, the dedication it takes to keep a car up, running, and in good shape all those years, amazing ! He averaged just over 7:28 per mile for 26 miles and still runs 3 hours each and every day around a cemetery a couple of blocks from his house in Toronto. That's where the dealership that he got the new car from is located. I believe he works for an insurance company, traveling New England doing estimates for automobile claims. His mileage works out to abut 62K a year, a little over 5,000 miles a month. Very doable. I knew a couple of bank messengers back in the 80's that used their own cars on routes. One drove the same route twice a day, 240 miles 5 days a week. He bought a new Citation when they came out in spring 1979 and put 100K on it in 18 months. Had such good luck with it (a Citation !?!), he bought a new identical one in '81. Another messenger put 176 miles a day on his Cutlass. He bought a new one every other year, trading them in with 125K on them. More recently, another bank employee I knew who called on businesses selling Mastercard and Visa services put an average of 4500 miles a month on his cars.
