Guest Kingoftheroad
Saw a Cobra Daytona on the road yesterday ! A traditional blue w/white stripe paint scheme. Something you don't see very often, whether its a kit or an original Daytona coupe. He was sitting at a light and when the light turned green, he took off leaving other traffic behind, sounded pretty good !!
keiser31
I'm jealous! Those are awesome cars.
joe_padavano
There are six original Daytonas, plus a seventh that was completed from an original chassis. They are worth well into seven figures. You saw a kit.
Guest Kingoftheroad
I figured it was a kit.....
Matt Harwood
There's also one fellow who decided to build his own out of aluminum. It's more accurate than any kit, and the workmanship is flat-out stunning. He left it naked for a good long while, and it was a treat to see. You can probably find it doing a Google search, and the webpage he made showing the build is worth the read!Lovely cars.
Guest Kingoftheroad
I'm jealous! Those are awesome cars. They are COOL but, I prefer an AC Cobra with a big block, side pipes, etc...
Matt Harwood
The Daytona does have a big block and side pipes. More than just a hardtop Cobra, but essentially, that's the idea.
West Peterson
Since everyone assumes you're driving a replica if you have a big-block Cobra, I'd prefer to have a small-block Cobra. Yes, those have been replicated, but in such small numbers that nobody knows about them. Plus, the small-block Cobras are so much more fun to drive. alsancle
I'm pretty sure all the real Daytonas were 289 cars.I believe all the Daytona's were 2000 series cars which would be 289.I was going to chime in with comment on the replica's basically destroying the value of the real thing. I agree with the previous comment with regard to preferring the 289 since a 427 car is assumed to be a replica anyways.
Matt Harwood
Doh! Thanks for the clarification, guys, I didn't know the Daytonas were 289s. I always figured they were big block cars. I apologize for not knowing my Cobras, thanks for the information. I, too, would prefer a small block car, if not only for the styling purity of the shape. As we said when I was building Corvettes, "I can get my small block car around the corners faster than your big block car can catch it in the straightaways." Dave Mellor NJ
The latest issue of "Old Cars Weekly" had a story about a gathering of "Carroll Shelby Racing Legends" on Sept 17 at the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia. They had a Daytona there among a lot of other Shelby cars. Perhaps you saw the Daytona in transit.
Guest Kingoftheroad
The Cobra I saw was traditional blue w/white stripe, number on the car was 15.
