Guest docmiller13
Had a knocking sound in the motor after I got the electrical and carb situation together. I pulled the head and the pistons...wrist pin seems very loose and there were no removable bearing on the rod. Any suggestions to where to find piston rings, bearings, etc...?? Not having much luck. Thanks
John Gelfer
I think the rod and crank bearings are a cast babbit material. You can't just drop in an insert bearing. They have to be poured, and then line bored to fit.
Guest docmiller13
hmm..not sure...there is a gap between the connecting rod and the rod cap...looks like to seat the bearing...who ever took the motor apart last time did not place any bearings in the connecting rod or your right and they are babbit bearings
Guest
The connectiong rod bearings are cast in place babbit, your main bearings are replaceable shells (but I have never seen a set in 52 years of searching).Occasionally rebabbited rods show up on ebay. Over the years I have picked up several standard rods. The first thing you need to know is the size or undersize of the throw on the crankshaft. By the way all split head Pontiac and GMC engines use the same connecting rods.

EGGE Machine Company - Parts and Services for Nostalgic Motors Note; this could be expensive but thank goodness someone is doing it.Don Edited October 19, 2011 by helfen (see edit history)
