Guest directconnman
Hello all ,I have a 1954 Chrysler with a 331 V8 and when I tried to start it it turned over a couple times and then the starter just kept spinning even when I turned the key off . Had to unhook the batt to stop it and now when I hook the batt back up it starts spinning again . Battery is fully charger and all conn. seem good . Any info/suggestions would be welcomed . Thanks ! keiser31
Sounds like the solenoid is sticking.
Guest billybird
keiser31 is right I'm sure. The next time it does that, try tapping the solenoid with a rubber hammer. Many times this will un-stick it.
Guest danceswithpumps
I'm having the same problem with my 57 GMC pickup even when I short accross from the small post to the large post with the key in OFF position.. My solenoid is a new one. Do new ones stick or do I have another problem? Thanks for any help.:confused:Rod
Dandy Dave
New ones are sometimes defective and will stick. When the new 57 chevy solenoid was installed, was it well greased??? I think that is part of the problem even with new sealed parts, seems the aftermarket manufatures are not lubing things enough. Dandy Dave! Dandy Dave! Thanks, Dave. I'll check with the fellow I had clean, lube my starter, and installed the solenoid. I hooked up jumpers(before I put the starter on the motor) to the base of starter neg. and pos.to big post on Solenoid and it stopped spinning starter when I removed the cables. I thought everything worked ok. I did buy the econo model solenoid from Napa. Thanks,Rod Edited October 18, 2011 by danceswithpumps (see edit history)

Guest laddy
My 39 Dodge did the same thing a few years back. A few good wacks from a rubber mallet and it was cured. Never happened again.
R Walling
There has never been a tool invented that has the abilities to repair anything better than a hammer! It was the first tool invented that got a woman to look at a man and is the first tool that I chose when something goes wrong.
