West Peterson
I'm trying to help a friend identify a General Motors grille. In my opinion, it appears to be from a Buick Riviera (1971-72 vintage). Part number looks like 49399.24, but it could be 49899.24.
auburnseeker
Neither of those numbers come up good in my books. IS that the number on the tag or box or is it the number cast/moulded in the grille?
West Peterson
It was a number on the tag. Thanks for looking.

auburnseeker
GM usually didn't put a decimal point in the part number 49899.24 like this. Are you sure it's GM? Is it a GM tag on it? usually the number would have been just 4989924 Is it hand written on the tag or is a printed number from a machine?
West Peterson
I didn't take a picture. It was definitely a GM tag, but the numbers were deteriorating badly. The decimal looked like a decimal, but might not have been. There was another number also that I did not write down, but it only had 4 digits and did not seem like a part number. He told me not to bend over backwards to find out. So, I won't make anyone else, either. I just thought if the number I gave would be a quick and easy answer, I'd relay the information. Thanks for your help. auburnseeker
The other number would have been the group number. Something like 1.303 although it might be a number or two higher or lower. I think 1.303 is for grille trim parts nad not the whole grille. I'll run it through my newer book at the shop. Maybe it's not as old as we are all thinking. West Peterson
I finally received the part number tag:The numbers are clearly9899 24GR 1 266Grille DCO
auburnseeker
Looks like the number should read 9899124. The number one is worn off the tag. That does turn out to be a 1972 Buick model 490 grille in my parts book. That would be the Riviera as you suspected. Hope this helps.
