Guest stretchmaster1
I am trying to find out more on my 1948 Chrysler royal 4 door 8 passenger car. I found out some info but I want to know if it was a limo or sedan. Also how many are still around, maybe even where mine could have been used. My vin # is 70031344 the body number says 1048 1446 (has a space between sets of numbers). Thanks Spencer
keiser31
Got any photos? The wheelbase is probably the main clue.
Rusty_OToole
A limousine had a divider window, an 8 passenger sedan does not. By divider window I mean a glass between the chauffeur's compartment and passenger compartment. Both would have jump seats in front of the rear seat and both would have the same wheelbase, 139.5 for the six cylinder Royal. Most of these cars were used for airport limousines and similar semi bus work. Guest stretchmaster1
I have tried to download pictures but they won't download, I will try and do it again. Nope it won't let me upload my pictures. Anyhow, The car doesn't have a dividing window in it, so i guess that means it was a sedan. I do believe it to be 139.5 wheelbase.Thanks. keiser31
Some information for you. It looks to be a very early 1948 Royal. Yours is the 8-passenger sedan.
Guest stretchmaster1
Thanks. And I do live in Nevada, how did you know?Does anybody know what the body numbers mean?
keiser31
I recognized it as being Nevada because of two reasons...I have been there a few times and a lot of the photos of the Harrah's collection automobiles have a similar background. keiser31
I find it hard to believe that it still has most (if not all) of it's stainless trim and chrome stuff on it....especially those trim pieces between the front doors and hood. AND they were such poor shots, they completely missed hitting any of the shiny pieces except for the grill. xdmn
Ya, couple reasons I thought it may be Nevada. I have property in Dayton and lived in Carson City a while back so I know the "look". I have looked at numerous cars like this in similar condition and the climate seems to preserve them well and there are always bullet holes from some idiot in them. Looked at a bunch of Chryslers years ago in Fallon and Yerington that were great cars but had had many rounds through them as well.Glad to see you are going to save it. Keep us updated and will gladly help if I can.
Joe Cocuzza
Spencer,I have a few parts for the car if you are interested.Joe
Guest stretchmaster1
I do believe it does have every single piece of stainless steel trim. They did get a shot to the trunk-light and ruined the mechanism. The handles and door hinges work really well and they have no sloppyness in them.
