Guest windjamer
Depends on what you want. Oem style will not be cheap, just plane covers most any auto parts store or k-mart.

rocketraider
Used to see NOS vintage "seat topper" covers on ebay all the time. These were the same covers many owners had installed on their new cars back then to protect and preserve the upholstery. They were custom fit and installed with hogrings same as regular upholstery. Most car manufacturers offered them thru dealer parts counter in addition to trim shops and parts stores. Most were tasteful, some were kinda garish. But any would be period correct for your 53. auburnseeker
Is your car a 2 or 4 door sedan? I have a set of those original GM seat covers mentioned above in the GM box.
Lebowski
I got these seat covers for my '49 Buick last year on Ebay for less than $75 with shipping. They were still in great shape considering that they sat in a box for at least 50 years....
rocketraider
I saw that set last year. Sonseeker, that's an idea of what you may find. Once smoothed out, they fit just like they were "made" for the car (which they were).
Lebowski
Once smoothed out, they fit just like they were "made" for the car (which they were). You are correct. It said on the box that they were made specifically for the 1946-49 Buick Special. I was afraid to stretch them to eliminate the wrinkles because I could tell that the 50 year old fabric was going to rip easily....
rocketraider
Lebowski, if you have one of those Shark steamers, it may relax the fabric enough to smooth it, then as it dries it will easily mold itself to the seat. Most trim shops have a steamer for this purpose. I can understand the concern about rips though.Trimacar will know for sure.
