XXXII. Chassis for 1930-32 Peerless Straight 8. About July 30th, I saw an ad on the peerlessmotorcar.com site with a chassis for a large-series Peerless FS. Don't remember if it included an engine.

XXXIII. Saw some interesting Peerless items on ebay motors today.

A. a 1916-22 Radiator Shell Emblem, $350.00. Has the blue Peerless script.

B. a 1910s Wooden Peerless Coil Box, $139.

C. a Sales Catalog for the 1908 Peerless, $194.99. The illustrations show Peerlesses at Harvard University. PERFECT for the guy or gal who went to Harvard and wants a Peerless!

D. a NOS Water Pump Shaft Roller Bearing for a 6-70, 6-72 Peerless, 1924-1927, $75.95. Man. by Bower. 1 bearing and outer race.

XXXV. An original Peerless Eagle Hood Ornament, probably 1927-1929, is for sale on ebay until late 10/31/13. Opening price of $9.50......$20.00 on 10/29......sold for $70.01 on 10/31. Fair condition only.

This is one of the sculptural ones, not a motometer with an eagle motif. Does anyone know if these are cast zinc, iron, or brass under the plating?

XXXVII. A really nice-looking item is FS on ebay for 3 more days. It's listed as a Rare Peerless Ignition and Light Switch. I think it's $59.00 and even has a key with it. An oval shape as goes on the dash panel of a 1924 Model 66 or 1927 Model 6-72. It has a Peerless Eagle logo at the top...so it's not from the nearly identical unit on a Packard.

XXXVIII. 1910s-Era Peerless V-8 ENGINE & Transmission For Sale!!!!!!!!!

On e-Bay Motors until 12/23/13. In Middlebury, IN. Lots of Photos.

The brass Engine Serial# Plate shows: 8937. That should make it a Model 56, Series 5 engine. Model 56, Series 1-7 (1916-22) preceded the Model 66 (1923-24). This motor even has the two quad water return pipes with it, plus some extra parts.

XXX. Peerless Antique 2" Emblem Badge for sale on ebay. First bid 89.99 - price 129.99. It at first looks like an instrument panel or rad shell emblem, but it's really a "Dealer Key Fob". Too heavy a casting for a rad shell badge. The originals always had one big hole at the top so you could attach a key ring for the ignition lock, rumble seat lock, transmission lock, etc. This one has a second hole probably so the dealer could have an I.D. tag with the owner's name {"Billie Burke", "Cleveland Police Chief", "President Hoover", etc.}.

Neater than a rad shell badge, IMO, and think it should be worth more 'cause little old me never sees them FS as often as the radiator shell badges. Still FS 2/12/14.

Note To You Guys Who Have Cars For Which Spare Parts Are Common: These Peerless parts are still quite rare, but they do show up here and there.

XXXI. On Ebay this morning there was an Employees I.D. Badge, a Dealer Key Fob Medallion, a Peerless Script Jack and two Peerless Logo Tire Pressure Gauges.

XXXII. There is now a pretty nice original Peerless Logo Motometer for sale on ebay motors with a flip-back base and "dogbones". I'm guessing it would be right for the 1920-1927 time period, though there were at least two different radiator spout diameters on Peerlesses then. The dial is about 3 1/4" across. FS until 6:45 PM Pacific time March 2nd ,2014.

XXXIII. Exhaust Header Gaskets for 1916-1924 Peerless V-8 engines, and Distributor for a 1929 Model 8-125 Peerless are FS on ebay. Not commonly seen there - - - or at NAPA!

XXXIV. Ebay Motors has NORS Intake Valves for 1916-28 Peerless V-8 Engines FS for a month. There is also a Peerless Logo Tire Pressure Gauge FS.

Ebay has an ad for Murray Coach Works with a nice color illustration showing some models of Hupmobile, Jordan, Marmon, and Peerless equipped with Murray bodies one can see at the latest auto shows for 1928.

hello, I realize this is a peerless car thread, but just wondering if there are any peerless trucks or parts in the states, or did the majority of what was built went to the uk for ww1 transport? appreciate any advice on this, thanks mike.

Dear blastermike,

Many Peerless trucks stayed in the States....I found a picture of one in Northern Idaho(1914) and Southern California(1920) on ebay. A number of them went in pursuit of Senor Pancho Villa in 1916. An enormous number went to the British 1914-18....at least 12,000. Only one trace of one in the USA, and letters to that address in Quincy,California{Richard Egbert} are returned by the postal service.

There are some posts here on the Peerless Forum re: Peerless Trucks by the expert....living in the U.K.(Tim, or "Great War Truck"). Several still exist in the British Isles and in South Africa. Some are armoured cars. Folks may write about Peerless Trucks here anytime!

hi jeff, thanks for the info on the peerless trucks, and I do know GWT in the uk thought there may be few examples about in the states, it does seem that nearly all there production went to the uk, thanks again, mike.

Hi , a 1910 military Peerless exists at Sandstone Estates in South Africa (www.sandstone-estates.com) . As far as I know it is the only one in this country but I have yet to visit them.

Peerless built their first heavy truck in 1911. They were making delivery trucks, patty wagons and such on their auto chassis but in 1911 they started producing the 1 1/2 ton truck and then added the 3 ton and 5 ton to the line. England purchased thousands of these chassis and installed their own bodies on the back. In 1914 Peerless had so many orders for trucks that their total production on 4 cylinder engines went into the trucks and only 280 automobiles were built that year and they were all six cylinders. Peerless truck production continued thru 1917 with very little change.

Thanks for chipping in! I read something about shipping Peerless cars back east on the beds of Peerless flatbed trucks back in the teens. That would work nicely today if there were still trucks around in the U.S. and you didn't mind the low cruising speed. I'm guessing half-fast at best!

which means 'Land of the Long White Cloud' to answer your question, no I haven't found a 4 ton peerless truck, shame as they look like a very robust truck, but I have received only this week a 1916 Packard model D 3 ton truck which jeff came from a farm not far from Caldwell Idaho, the internet has made it a smaller world

i'll have to talk to GWT and see what other info he can give me, but I bet there is a few survivors in the states, just need to be rediscovered, maybe some ended up in Mexico? you never know sometimes,

XXXV. A nice Instrument Panel for a 1930-1932 Peerless 8 is for sale on Ebay / Collectibles / Peerless Car 'till Sunday, 3:00 PM Pacific, 5/11/14. Only $11.49 and in good condition when I looked at it.

XXXVI. Scanning e-bay today I see 3 things of interest to Peerless owners: a Peerless Script Jack(about $250), an original Bound Booklet of Peerless Co-Operators from about 1926-1928($300 marked down to $150), and a Sales Manual for a 1927 or 1928 Peerless V-8($59.95), the Aluminum 332 Cu. In. Peerless Engine/Dual Exhaust/4-Barrel Carburetor Car.

XXXVII. Also FS on ebay today are 3 copies of the indispensable Automobile Quarterly Vol.11, No. 1 (1973) book with a 32-page chapter about the Peerless Motor Car Company from start to finish. You have no business owning a Peerless or contemplating owning one if you don't have a copy*...especially when one's $5.00, one's $5.95, and one's $6.00.

You can tell which issue this is by the brown cover with Japanese calligraphy on it(one of the other chapters is about Mazda rotary engines).

*It's that well written.

XXXIX. A bottle of Carling Red Cap Ale with label dated 1934, and a 1934 ad for Carling Red Cap Ale stating "Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of the Peerless Corporation" were for sale on ebay yesterday.

As close as you'll get to finding a '34 Peerless!

XL. Right now an Aluminum Peerless Hubcap(script rather than block letters...probably pre-1924), a Pines Peerless Winterfront(for a 1925-1928), and an original Boyce Motometer w/ Peerless Logo(pat'd 1918, includes base) are for sale on e-Bay.

I don't know of anyone right now who has one for sale. If someone started making parts for Peerlesses, that would be a good place to start. That's unbelievable what that one quote you got for a new head was, Pete. You'd think that alone would encourage some entrepreneurs.

I looked here on the AACA Forums and found a little bit of information. On a thread called "Continental Engines" on the General Discussion forum(Jan., 2014-Sept. 2014), Bud Tierney talked about two obsolete Continental engine parts dealers:

There was also some discussion on a Gen'l Disc. Forum thread called "anyone recognize this engine and frame"(Sept., 2014) about a motor someone found that is close to an 18C Continental in appearance. 1st they thought it was an 18C, but maybe it was a model 16... Anyway, it is close to what my 18C engine looks like, and it was mentioned that the Jordan Model "E" of 1929 used an 18C engine, as well as the 1929 Peerless 6-81. Reading these threads will give you more insight than what I have said here.

Good luck and please write back if you have any success.You have probably already tried it, but looking in e-Bay can turn up good parts sometimes. I've seen entire Peerless V-8 engines for sale, brass radiator return pipes for these 332 V-8s; and right now there's a Johnson Carburetor that may possibly fit a 1924 6-70 or a 1926 6-72 Peerless, plus an axle for a Custom Eight and a perfect hubcap for a 1924-28.

NOTE: I just tried looking and was not able to find anything about 1920 Continental automobile engine applications on the sites themselves. Maybe others will have better luck.

Hello Petemick My friend has a spare engine for a Graham Paige 621. Not sure if it is an 18ca but I will look into that if you want to do some homework of your own. My friend George said there were 2 engine sizes for Grahams in 1929. Just went for the last cruise of the year in the Peerless as the thermometer is about to drop.

Great to hear from you. Is George the friend you told me about who is a Graham-Paige Guy and recommended you buy the car when you happened upon it 5 or 6 years ago? Did you see the post on the New Peerless Discovered thread, No. 83, that someone found another 1929 Peerless Eight-125? It's a Coupe.

Yes my friend George is the Graham Paige collector and he has a spare continental 6 from a Graham Paige 621. He also has a spare 8 cylinder but it has a marine configuration. Surprised the chap from Australia never got back to me but for curiosity I will go and check that motor when I get a chance. Winter is upon us now 20 degrees and 5 inches of snow = no more cruises. Thank you guys for your assistance, I have managed to find a specialist in Johannesburg who is trying to repair the head for me so let me give it a week or so and see how it works out

I bought a book on Continental engines some time ago trying to work out how the early history of the model range worked but it was no help at all.

I posted a lot of pictures on the Peerless Motor Car Company website recently of my car as it now is . It is a delight to drive

Thanks for the tip but I am unsure of that dash.

By the way, I might be in need of a grill shell for the Peerless. I dropped mine off at a re-chromer's shop in Montville, Maine, and it's been more than a year since.

I've called and emailed and he still keeps avoiding me saying he still need to do some work on it. I have a sick feeling about it. I think it's no longer of this world. To say I am a bit "miffed" is a severe understatement.

I wouldn't be miffed, Ralph. Whether the guys at the shop sold your rad shell on ebay, threw it in the trash thinking they could get a new one at Pep Boys, or lost it, they will either be paying for craftsmen to fabricate an exact reproduction for you, or whatever you have to pay to find an original one out there. Ralph Cartonio says that every one of the Peerless models has a slightly different size radiator shell as you go up the price ladder(in the 1926-1928 time period), so don't assume a 1928 6-60, 6-91 or 8-69 shell will fit a '28 6-80.

I suppose the shop may come through for you, too. We can only hope! Were you going to have them chrome plate or nickel plate? Have you contacted Ralph about another grill shell in the event something happened to yours? I remember he was trying to find another one for his 1928 8-69 Roadster in 2010, and sent away for one FS on eBay. I think he paid something like $400 and it was the wrong size....maybe he still has it & it would work for you.

Did you get to see the ad on kijiji yet? It may be that you don't need these parts, but they look pretty good in the photos. As I recall ---------- you may have a '28 6-80 with the oval, glass-front instrument panel, so none of these parts may fit anyway.

XLII. Today there are a couple of interesting Peerless parts FS on ebay: a Delco Distributor Assembly for a '23, '24, '25 Peerless 8; and a Barn Find of Parts for a 1909 Peerless. At first glance, I thought someone discovered the 1906 Peerless parts cache in Iowa...but these appear to be in Texas.

The 1909 parts consist of the rear panel of a Roi des Belges(7-Pass. Touring Car) body, front seatback sheetmetal, and front fenders. Possibly more. The ad now says there are body brackets and a professionally re-done radiator. There are 5 photos. $20,000.

The cost seems a little high, until you remember that Peerless was using cast aluminum for some of its body panels at this time. Not sure which pieces on a 1909 are steel and which are aluminum, but not everyone can cast the latter in their basement workshop.

XLIII. For all you guys out there :D with 1924 Peerless Model 6-70 cars....I actually saw three things you could buy for them when I looked on e-Bay a couple of days ago:

  • A Model 70 Instruction Book (Owners Manual)
  • An early 6-70 Sales Brochure showing the body styles available when first introduced about March, 1924 (5-P Sedan, 2-P Roadster, 5-P Touring Phaeton)"...all available in Peerless blue." The 5-P Coupe, 7-P Touring Phaeton, 7-P Sedan, and 7-P Berline Limousine were available later.
  • The 1924 6-70 Generator that's been FS for 4 years now.
