Question About Glass Bowl Fuel Filters

I am thinking about getting a vintage glass bowl fuel filter to put on my straight eight. It's missing the original Moraine filter and I currently have one of those cheap plastic filters hooked up and tucked out of sight. So my question is, if I were to buy one of these vintage filters(say maybe a Carter brand as that is what brand my carb. is)where do you find replacement paper elements? Can you buy ones that are close in design and make it work or is there a source for re-pops? Also, if anybody has a lead on where I can buy one of the original Moraine filters I would be interested in hearing about it. Only Moraine filter I can find is on ebay and it's from the 40's and doesn't really look like the one I need.

Can't say I know what a Moraine filter is but the Carter glass bowl filters I have have a ceramic filter in them. Any heavy sediment settles on the bottom of the glass bowl and thats easily cleaned. There are plenty of these types regularly on ebay. My '39 has a flter screen in the fuel pump but I think the filter at the carb gives it just a little bit of that OLD CAR character.

Thanks for all the responses guys. These ceramic filters, some of the ones on ebay are described as having "stone" filters. Are these one and the same? Danny, from what I understand Moraine filters came standard on my car. I've attached a picture. It is an inline filter that hooks up to a nipple right at the carb. It has a screw at the bottom to drain water and sediment out occasionally. Not sure how long this filter was in use on Buicks, but it's in my 52 service manual.

In my experience with my '50s, the Moraine came with the Stromberg carb , on the Special. The Super has a Carter Carb and Carter glass bowl filter. Moth are utilizing the "ceramic" technology of the period.

The ceramic filter, at least the Morain, will stop "stuff" that the after market inline filter LETS PASS. Ask me how I know!!
