Guest Squire Tom
any big differences in the 91 drive train other than the computer controlled tranny? I saw in the water pump thread something about a plastic fitting vs a metal one. Also a reference to the " L " shaped hose from the water pump.Wanda has run very well since i bought her three and a half years ago. Had to replace the battery and starter motor and changed to R134 . Also had a leaking rear caliper ( replaced ). Replaced the tranny fluid and it shifts very nicely.I am going to have the coolant system flushed next month. Is it worth replacing the water pump , plastic fitting , 180 deg F thermostat and L shaped hose as a preventative measure? Wanda has 114k and has not given any abnormal overheating problems. She does run two or three bars over center when in traffic with the a/c on. She cools to normal when running free.1G4EC13L8MB901521 which character is for the motor? got a C and an L ! padgett
Depends on life, usually by 100k both C and L have had water pumps.Might as well replace everything convenient while in there. OTOH one of the things I have noticed about running engines cool is that everything, particularly belts and hoses, last much longer. In fact I usually replace belts and hoses preventitively after about 20 years rather than from failure. When I bought the blue car in 2001 I bought a set of spare hoses just in case. Still have them.
Guest Kingsley
Seconding Padgett's thread above, I am going through both my '89 and '90 and replacing anything "disposable" that looks old or is less than OE equivalent. Undoubtedly down the road this will pay dividends.
