Guest soledadsp
What wheel is this off of. It looks like it is made for a speedometer to go inside the hubcap area.
keiser31
I believe that those indentations are for the spline on the hub (to lock wheel into place). A speedometer drive at the wheel is usually on the inboard side of the wheel.
Layden B
This is a Houk brand wire wheel, they date from the teens to mid 1920's. Keiser31 is correct about the notches being for the hubcap latch to go against. Many makes of cars used this popular brand as standard equipment or optional choice, they were also offered as aftermarket.
paulrhd29nz
Hubcap.. No. Thats a pindrive wheel. The notches are for the hub retainer that locks the wheel on to the hub.Whats the size and width of your wheel?Paul Edited September 28, 2011 by paulrhd29nz spelling (see edit history)
Layden B
Paul,Yes this is a pin drive wheel. Semantics can be difficult! The company that manufactured these called what you describe as "hub retainer" as the hub cap. Yes it was a functional piece that held the wheel on to the hub, not just decorative.
