Guest billybird
I just want to say how much I enjoyed "Batter Up" by West Peterson in the current edition of Antique Automobile. As a former baseball player { in my younger days } and still avid fan; I smiled and laughed my way through that arcticle. I guess because I could relate to it so well. Good job, editor Peterson. Gotta go now; it's a double header, next game is in 30 min.
West Peterson
I'm glad you liked it. I had fun writing that one, and the adrenaline was flowing as I was writing. I, too, played a lot of baseball in my youth. Alas, just when it was time to move up to varsity, my family moved to the second largest school district in the state. I was told that unless I could hit home runs, the new "team" didn't need me. I was a consistent singles guy, with an on-base average well above .500. The team finished second in state that year, so at least I know I wasn't fed a line just to "get rid of the kid."
Guest billybird
Luckily, I didn't have to hit that well as I was a pitcher. Still have the ball where I threw a one hitter in high school { 4 outs from a no-hitter }. Went on to play Americam Legion baseball. Finally had to get a job. The end.
