Transmission shift cable.

Has anyone had a transmission shift cable fail? If so how did it fail where did you find a replacement?

I've never had one downright fail. I have however had one fall off where it connects to the transmission.

I had it fall off the 88, after the second time I fasioned a retainer from a piece of safty wire. Hasn't happened since.

Mike and I both have a ready supply of these cables. We are just trying to determine the demand so that we know how many to keep in inventory. They are time consuming to remove.

Problem is that it is the end that gets worn, not the cable. Then it lifts off the pivot. All it really needs is a better clip for the end, something that can accomodate the different angles involved. I made one from safety wire but is not an elegant solution. Does not need a lot of strength. As mentioned, to replace the cable is non trivial since it runs through the firewall to the lever in the console.
