Guest ctcaddy
Hi all:I posted this on another forum section but no one could help so I am trying here. The car is claimed to be a 1905 Binford but there is no makers mark or identification anywhere. The engine is a 2 cylinder opposed, water cooled Davis marked E5 in the casting. The only referances I have found was in the 1953 Glidden Tour and a picture of a car in a closed Long Island Museum. I spoke with the son of the Tour driver and he did not have any information on the car. It was sold many years ago. He thought it may be 1 of 2 built in Cape Cod. The general thought is that it may be a "kit" car or one assembled from various cars. There is no listing I can find for Binford. One possibility is that it is a Benford. In 1904 Benford (PA) was sold to the Holley Brothers and they in turn sold off the parts as a kit. The only picture I have seen does not exactly match. I have several pictures. The car is chain driven and the only part other than the engine with a marking is the ignition box. It is labeled New York Coil Co. I've looked at thousands of pictures but none match so far. Ideas?Larry
West Peterson
Here's a Holley. It's a single cylinder car. One of just 3 known to exist.
Guest ctcaddy
Thanks West. That's a better picture than I saw. While the radiator and engine are different, there are some similarities but no match. I think the count is about 10,000 pictures and 30 or so hours of trying to identify this car. It may not be possible which means I have to find something like it to figure value. I tried researching the Davis engine. Not much information on it. I think it may have been more for agricultural use. I have yet to see a picture of one like this. I think Davis made some steam engines. X-Frame
What does the AAA tag under the box say. Can't quite make out a year - is it 1917?
X-Frame
Looks like a card on the driver seat that has the car's info on it in the one photo - what did it say?

Guest ctcaddy
Hi all:I had the pleasure of talking with Bob Schonberg's son who remembered the car. His only recollection was that his father said it was built on Cape Cod and was 1 of 2. It has an opposed 2 cylinder Davis engine. The car sold many years ago. The next mention I found was a picture from a closed museum on Long Island. I suspect that both are the same car as I am researching. There is no name or marking anywhere on the car. The late owner mentioned in an interview that it was a "early kit car". As can happen over the years, information can be distorted. There are other cars in the collection with wrong model years and other information. Larry
