I have a 1988 Reatta.

New battery, new plugs, new sensors, lots of work on the car. For months, the car has been draining the battery. I replaced it again and thought all was well.

Then I noticed that the courtesy light is going on and off all night long. Sometimes, when I close the door, the light just stays on. I restart the car, turn on the lights and turn it off. Then the light stays off.

Sometimes it is off when I close the door, but then rolls through turning on and off all night long. Battery will be dead or nearly dead in the morning:mad:.

What is going on?

Are all the courtesy lights or just one or two?

They all tie together at the courtesy light relay which is controlled by the BCM when it receives a signal.

If they all are coming it could be quite a few things, if just a few, then a bad splice in the ground wires under the passenger's seat could be the problem.

Have you checked the slide switch on your light switch? Sometimes it can be inadvertantly be slid over to the right which turns that overhead light on.

That will also turn on the floor pan lights, and the door courtesy lights though..

Do all of your lights inside come on when you open the doors?

The light has power (+12 volts) going to it all the time. The light is turned on when the the courtesy light relay completes the ground side of the light circuit. All the courtesy lights are turned on at the same time. If only the dome light is staying on, and the rest of the courtesy lights are off, it is likely that the wire splice under the passenger side carpet has come loose allowing the wire going to the dome light to short to a metal ground. The wire splices are a common problem on Reattas that sit outside in the rain.
