Hi Guy's

Been a member for a few years. Blower motor kept running the other day key on or off on high, till I pulled wire off of blower. Checked forum threads seemed like common problem. Blower Module. Got new from GM dealer. part #12484912. Old part number 16061602. Replaced today. Fan will not run at all key on key off Climate control on or off no fan. Put old one in fan runs high until unpluged just like did other day. Could new module be bad? Or other problem. Thanks Reatta Bob.

Looks like they supplied the new replacement part # for this module.

PN listed at RockAuto is 1572530. It should have a 4 pin connector and a 2 pin connector. Does yours?

Do you have a DVM to do some troubleshooting?

The module gets a variable voltage input from the ECU which it then uses to modulate the battery voltage to the blower motor.

There are no fuses in the circuit, just 2 fuseable links which are not usually a problem. So if module is good ECU is bad which is not likely.

I know we have discussed this part before. It's a common failure point on GM cars with ATC.

It is really a simple control circuit but necessarily uses power control semiconductors which need a large amount of cooling to stay operational, and tend to have a limited life span.

I have found a nice description of the module and a redesign for a replacement upgraded circuit for anyone who is handy with electronics and a soldering iron.

So McReatta, what parts can I offer you to make me TWO of these replacement Blower Control Modules plus one MP3 pigtail like the one I traded a CRT for? Anything in the Teves brake system? another CRT? PM me if interested...

I'd be interested in just the MP3 pigtail. Let me know how much or if you'd like to trade something.

Reatta Bob, doesn't seem we have helped you solve your problem yet.

My first concern was you got the wrong part since there are at least 4 different yet similar modules out there and some won't work in the Reatta.

But it appears that you got the correct one.

So I'm leaning towards the theory you got a bad one from the dealer.

If you have access to a DVM you can check to make sure, but if you don't I would just return the module to the dealer and exchange for another. It is a stocked part, so there shouldn't be too much drama.

Yes even though there are 6 pins in the top, only 4 are actually used, so checking them out isn't too hard. The ones with only 4 pins total on top will not work in our cars.

Since the old one runs the fan, you know the hot and ground wires from the battery and to the motor are good. That's 3 of the 4, so the only one you need to verify is the signal from the ECC which is the grey/black wire to pin B of connector C2. If there is a signal voltage there, then the ECC is OK and the module is the problem for sure.

Did you remember to clean out the face of the evaporator while you had the module out so you know you're getting good air flow while you were at it?

Barney showed how to make a vacuum cleaner adapter to do this with.
