harry yarnell
Meant to write this up earlier, but life got in the way.Well Maaco did a FABULOUS job of repainting my white '90 coupe. The pearl just dances in the sun; just beautiful. Not a run or orange peel or overspray anywhere...and the shine!!!PPG Deltron was used. GM paint code 93A. $800If you're thinking of a white respray, consider pearl white (also called white diamond)Appliance white on the Reatta is boring.I'm not saying ALL Maaco shops would turn out this nice a job; alot depends on the guy holding the gun. Guest kjslish
Wish my local Maaco did good work at a decent price. Here they are cheap, but don't expect anything close to good results. Did you do the prep work or did they do it all for $800?May make me want to take the Reatta and/or Fiero for a little drive to MD from PA.
harry yarnell
Good question.I did all the prep work, which was ALOT.This piece had minimal rust (except for the sunroof, which, after careful prep, blew off in traffic as I took it to the paintshop). The clearcoat was really the main issue; really crazed.Hint, don't use paint remover; it's a PITA. Plus the scraper leaves gouges that later have to be sanded out or filled with Spot-n-glaze.I ultimately used a hand-held DA with 80 grit to remove the clearcoat. Suprzingly, it didn't leave any swirl marks. I only took it down to the color coat (in most places), as the color coat was in good shape.Epoxy primed when I went to metal.Removed emblems (that rear REATTA script is held on with three nuts, not glued; a real pain) and let them do the masking. KDirk
Marck,I believe that is the color Harry was referring to. I really do like that color. And seeing the pic you posted makes me want to get a 88-93 Rivi, they really were nice looking cars; and distinctive as well. Maybe not as unique as a Reatta, but it is actually harder to find a really nice low mileage Riviera of that era now than it is a Reatta. I hope Harry posts some good detailed pictures of his car, I am looking forward to seeing how it turned out! If I ever have to do another full repaint on one of my Reatta (or even the Cadillac) I would seriously consider changing it to white diamond.KDirk
harry yarnell
Yes, the picture of the '89 Riviera is code 93; white diamond. Though Marck's photo hints of tan overtones. I think that's just the lighting on that day.I'll try for some shots if it ever stops raining.Pearl paint is very tricky with different lighting. padgett
I had mine painted GM Arctic White code 10, think almost anything is better than the stock code 40, too much yellow for me.
harry yarnell
Here are some shots I took yesterday when the sun FINALLY came out.The pearl was difficult to show in the photographs as is Mongoenman's shot.

charlie1
That is the color of my 1989 Riviera. It is a 3 stage paint and requires a good painter to get satisfactory results. Always a upcharge when they paint it. My 89 has a Rosewood vinyl top wish it did not have a vinyl top. My body shop said it would be cheaper to replace the top than remove it and paint the roof. Since my 89 lost its garage to the 99 Riviera tha UV rays are killing the top on the 89.

Removing and painting the top will solve the problem forever. Replace the vinyl, and you'll have the problem again.
charlie1
I would like to remove vinyl top although some seem to think it makes the car. Painting with this 3 stage paint means the 2 rear fenders and doors will have to be painted which means interior door panels have to be removed. Their is no dusting in or blending in doors and fenders with 3 stage paint. I am on the hunt for another garage. Hope we do not have another winter like last year!Besides I just went for my Lungs repairing the rust on the rear frame. I will update that post soon.
