Guest Rosco510
The AC compressor is missing on the 1957 Buick Roadmaster I just purchased. Can anyone give me a part # and is there any other year of an AC unit that will work? I've been to EBAY and CRAIGSLIST and no help.
CarlLaFong
eBay and CL is the last place I'd look for old car parts. Try the BOC (Buick Owners Club) first. Somebody there will have an answer for you
poci1957
My interchange manual says that compressor interchanges among 1956-57 Olds & Pontiac and 1957 only Chevy/Buick/Cadillac. The part number I have is 5910224 but that may not be an accurate number. Good luck, Todd C
PONTIAC1953
hi, the compressor is known as a "A5" compressor, poci1957 is correct on the interchanges. you might check with classic auto air in florida, charles coker, 1953 pontiac tech advisor. Somebody there will have an answer for youhi, i have found and bought several rare nos factory air conditioning parts on ebay motors, i didn't have to drive hundreds of miles to attend a swap meet, hoping i might find something. i have also found several good cans of R12 freon to buy from listings on craigslist. just my thoughts and experiences. charles coker, 1953 pontiac tech advisor. Guest rsd9699
You can use the used parts locater services as well.Leave no stone unturned in your quest for parts. The 58 compressors thru 61 will fit but the appearance is different and the clutch pulley may be unique to 1957 but the compressor will bolt in place at the front - rear may be a little different in bolting but the hoses will attach at the correct position.Note that compressors may interchange but not the clutch pulleys - all govmo divisions used different pulleys. No information on the brackets.Ron

Topper1961
Hi!I had the same problem with the "missing" compressor some monts ago. Fortunatly I was lucky to get a tip from a member on this forum "Caballero" about a compressor on Ebay. It is now beeing restored at Classic Auto Air in Florida. The fact is that before I got this I had purchased and shipped them two A5 1957 Cadillac compressors. They have agree to take theme as a part of the payment for the job. Conclusion - Classic Air in Florida has the A5, the question is all the dress up parts and connections - do you have thoose? PS! I don`t think 1956 fit, my experience is that this compressor where one year only (Interchancable within the BIG FIVE). If you want pictures of it (1957 Buick, email me!Good Luck!JornJunior member1957 Buick Model 63 & 66R Edited September 29, 2011 by Topper1961 Adding text (see edit history)
Guest Rosco510
Thanks for the information. I called Classic Air and they told me they needed an A5 for the core charge ($400). Thats just one of the problems, its also missing the bracket to hold the compressor. I can purchase a bracket, but its for a Buick with fin aluminum valve covers. The hoses were cut, but I can get them re-placed here in Atlanta. Every day I look on EBAY for a A5 compressor. With all that said, I would take you up on some pictures.Thanks,Rosco510
