DavidAU
Nowdays Stainless steel is the best. Terne coated steel (some sheetmetal shops stock it) has been used by the auto manufacturers and gas tank manufacturers for many years as it is cheap and resists internal corrosion. It also soldiers very easily due to the lead content in the coating. See Wikie explanation following."Terne is used to coat sheet steel to inhibit corrosion. It is the one of the cheapest alloys suitable for this, and the tin content is kept at a minimum while still adhering to a hot-dipped iron sheet, to minimize the cost".
