Well I got the engine out of the 89 today. I learned it's supposed to come out the bottom. Drop the subframe with it bolted and then separate. That's how I did the 04 impalaSS last year at work. There was alot more work involved removing small odds and ends first. Note to anyone who wants to do this get an organizer box so you can put nuts and bolts in it. I also learned it CAN come out the top and the bigass master cylinder wont hold you back. It's a bit tight but it will come out the top :) Got lucky with my fuel lines. They were rusted up at the frame but came out. The trans lines werent so lucky. They broke so now im contemplating putting nipples in the tranny and running an alternate trans cooler next to the p/s cooler behind the grille. And i broke the cruise actuator. The nipple that goes to a big hose that goes into the car.. gota go to the yard and get another one heh 2 broken parts for an 89 I think i did ok

yeah i pulled everything out as a unit. I"ll take more pics today. You cant get the tranny or engine out separate because of the subframe setup there's no room to pull one out without the other.

Hmm, that's odd? I have done the engine more than once, by itself, and the hood doesn't even have to be removed, although it does make it easier. I believe the procedure is outlined in the FSM? My hat is off to you if you managed to get both out the top as an assembly.

On a scale of 1 to 10 in the engines ive done it's about a 3. You need 2 people to do it but it comes up then twists to avoid the master cylinder. Someone will need to hold it. I was thinking the hood didnt have to come off but it did help. Its definatly nothing compared to a 96 accord 2.2L VTEC. It was a super tight fit and it was the original engine

I got the engine on the stand and got the cosmetic covers and parts off to powder coating. Took a few more pics to show the extent of the damages done by overheating.

Its strange the camber it has when there's no weight on it

No engine! :)

Leaky freeze plugs, and these are only the front 2. Backs are worse.
