Thanks everyone for the heat riser help just got it re sleeved and put a freeze plug on the exhaust side, still looks factory and runs great. After looking at posts for marvel problems the heat riser should be the first place to look, and yes maybe look again. Mine was just a pin size hole that caused all the trouble. finally took it apart after seeing mark shaw continue to harp on the heat riser. Thanks again. Jay

Yep right song indeed, hope no more songs are needed at least for a bit. It's fairly street worthy now so a few more weeks of driving then a long winter nap. Thanks again for the front axle and the advice. Jay

Michael,

I got your PM, but I want to share info with everyone... All you really need to do is remove the heat riser and inspect the steel tube inside. If there is even a pin hole, it will not allow your engine to run properly. Be very careful with the cast iron body when removing the inner (steel) tube by cutting down one or two sides and twisting it out. You can buy the tube on Ebay, Bob's Automobilia, or other sources. Or, just go you a local muffler shop and see if they have or can expand a tube to fit.

I was lucky to be able to use standard aluminized exhaust tubing on my 24 Master Buick PU. Other models may require special sizes. Cut the tube to length with a pipe cutter so it will be slightly beveled on one or both ends. This will allow you to press it into the cast iron body using an arbor press with only a little lubricant to help it go in smoothly.

Reinstall with new gaskets and your carburator will work much better.
