Grandfather's Car From 1920...what is it?

Recommended Posts

Model T ford or earlier speedster
- Thanks, I thought that might be it, but then I saw some Essex models that looked similar. Forgive my ignorance here, Ford made Model T's for many years, right? I have a picture of the car's tag, so I presume it is pre-1920. Any idea what year it might be from? I'm guess he 'customized' it a bit by removing fenders etc, or were they optional then?

Model Ts were so numerous in those days that cottage industries sprang up all over the world making accessories and gadgets for every conceivable part of a Ford. They had similar companies making aftermarket parts for Chevy and other popular cars of the period. This looks like a manufactured speedster body like "Mercury" or "Frontenac" or other.

I would guess that this car started off as a 1915 or 1916 Model T Ford; it doesn't have the "teacup" oil pan so it's not a real early one. The body is aftermarket, non-Ford.
