Rookie's question regarding new pads for an old car

Recommended Posts

Hey all - I have a '29 dictator GE with a mechanical Bendix Brake system, the three shoe style. I've found the pads are getting thin and would like to have them replaced.

Being new to the field of working on antique cars, I was wondering what my options are for having them relined. I live in a fairly rural area, and haven't checked with the local brand X store, but I'm guessing this isn't necessarily in their scope of work? Is there somewhere to send them out? Options?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Look around for a clutch & brake rebuilder in your area. They should be able to replace the linings. Or, if your comfortable doing it yourself, McMaster - Carr (mcmaster.com) has brake lining material and rivets/bonding material.
