edselsouth1
1988 Reatta coupe. Antilock light on (not associated with this problem). Seems that the front brakes are not releasing properly on the '88. The braking action is good, but after a stop, the front brakes will hang up, and in about 3-4 seconds they will release. It seems to be primarily the driver side. One can hear the caliper "relaxing" to allow the pads to release. Works great until the next stop, then a repeat. No excessive heat build up on the wheel on either side, so, it seems that it is only a problem for a few seconds. I'm going to replace the front flexible lines on both sides, and flush and bleed the system. Does anyone concur with my diagnosis, and do you have any other recommendations? Thanks, David. Rawja
Try the hoses first, if that doesn't fix it you might have a problem at the master valve block. There's a procedure to test the resistance of the valve block solenoids to determine if they're ok.
edselsouth1
Rawja..... Thank you. I have the new hoses ordered, and should get to change them Wednesday, along with the flush and bleeding of the system. Will let you know the results. Thanks. David. Jim
I am sure Roger is right. The hoses will look fine on the outside but collapsed on the inside. This allows the fluid under pressure to go out to the caliper but there is not enough pressure to push the fluid back to the reservoir.
