alsancle
So the radiator shell is wrong, but the engine & fenders & dash sure look like a Royale to me. Somebody more knowledgeable than me with REO care to comment? Here is the link to the auction.
keiser31
Wrong door handles and hood...body with the center door hinges and fenders look pretty right for a Reo.
alsancle
I think it's a Royale that has been messed with.
alsancle
Perhaps the early cars had a different radiator shell. This is the shell from Amelia Erhardt's car and it matches this one. I say definitely Royale now.
alsancle
Now that he has posted pictures of the dash it seems pretty clear it is a Flying Cloud 8-30. The Flying Cloud shared the fender treatment with the Royale but had the different radiator shell. I have a feeling that the Flying Cloud and Royale may have shared bodies (at least these open quarter sedan bodies) hence the strong resemblance. The engine seems to be identical in appearance to the Royale engine and maybe it was a detuned version of the same? Perhaps a Reo expert can chime in here.
alsancle
Now that I know just a little bit more about Royale's I thought I would bring this back up. There were two standard wheelbases 131 & 135 which designated two different model Royales. Both shared the same body but the shorter wheelbased car has 4 inches taken from the hood, louvers or 4 vents instead of 5 and a cheaper dash and some other cost savings. The wheelbase on this car looks longer than 131 but the other details seem to indicate that model. But maybe it is a Flying Cloud?
