Guest Vetteman61
Hello everyone,My father and I are going to look at a '50 Pontiac this weekend. It's a 6 cylinder flathead. It's supposed to be original (i'm sure it's been rebuilt, but has not had a newer engine put in).I know very little about these engines other than it's a flathead. Could everyone that can tell me anything I need to know about these cars and maybe what to look for with the engine. It's a 2 door, what I call a torpedo (fastback). My grandfather had one just like it except black, hence our interest in it.Thanks,Brandon
PONTIAC1953
hi brandon, what you're talking about is a 1950 pontiac streamliner deluxe sedan coupe, on top of the firewall, there's a metal tag it should read 50-2507D, does it have a three speed manual trans (syncro-mesh) or a four speed automatic ( singe range hydra-matic) ?, the engine has 90 horsepower, or 93 horsepower (high compression head), 239 cubic inches displacement. let me know if you need more information, charles coker, 1953 pontiac tech advisor, charlessdv8@yahoo.com
