Guest windjamer
A friend called and ask me how to remove the rear axle on a 50 chev p/u. I think it is like the 70s,remove the diff. plate remove the bolt holding the pin, slide the pin down and this will let you push in on the axle.the large u clip should drop out and then you can just pull the axle out. Is this correct for the 50??

Guest Bob Call
Jeff, are you sure? My dad had a 50 Chevy PU and I had a 51 Chevy sedan, same drive line different gear ratio. I don't recall them having a removable rear cover and c clip retainers. My 59 Chevy didn't have a rear cover with c clips on the axles. The axles were held in by the wheel bearing retainer. I pulled and replaced a lot of axles with stripped splines from drag racing.
junkyardjeff
The chevy trucks from the 30s to the mid 60s had a rearend that has a removable cover and the gear section will unbolt, they have C clips holding the axles in and are like the 70s. The 55 to 64 car rear ends are totally different and are made like a Ford 9 inch with no cover.
