1958 Chevy Impala ... disc brakes?

Recommended Posts

Hello you all.
I know the 1958 Chevys with drum brakes. Were they available with disc brakes? I can't find this as an option in my books. Here is a convertible for sale with disc brakes at the front axle.
Thanks.
Tom

Tom-
It was never a regular production option.
It is highly unlikely to have been a special factory or dealer conversion.
More likely, it has been modified by a private party.

Thomas,
It sounds like someone has put a clip on that car. Probably the Disk brakes are from a Mustang 2 or a Chrysler K car.
Check and see if it also has IFS or coil over shocks. Both of these are a good sign that someone has replaced the front end with something that isn't stock.

Several companies make disc brake conversion kits for 50s and later cars not originally available with them. They are engineered to fit and work properly, including spindles and the suspension and brake parts. Not for a true restored car, but great for a car used as a driver or tourer.
