Mama always said "If you can't say something nice................"

But I gotta ask "How did a Century 'vertible end up with a radiator shroud from a Special syncromesh tranny car?????

Well, did you ever hear "jack up the radiator cap and drive another car under it"? A 292 engine.?? A Special???

Ben

Sure am finding a lot of "This posting has been deleted by its author" ads, meaning only one thing.... the car sold and you missed another chance at a BEAUTIFUL BUY....and that the market is looking up.

I'm pretty sure the owner of that car called me last week for a technical issue on his '90's Roadmaster. He mentioned the car at that price. We had fun talking and he seemed like a good guy. He is 80 years old and selling some of his toys.

Maybe I'll give him a call just to chat then. Curious why it has a 322 in it.

Although the car isn't totally correct, I bet it wouldn't take more than a king grand to get it correct.

Looks like we have another Special Century here. What's with these folks mixing up engine parts and emblems and ornaments on the 54 convertibles. I believe this to actually be a another Special with an early 55 engine and 55 Century speedo/gauge cluster. Will be interesting to see what this one brings compared to the one that sold last week.

this might be worth looking into, been for sale for awhile and just maybe the seller needs some Christmas money and would take $14-1500 Looks to be a solid unmolested car.

http://southbend.craigslist.org/cto/4189200323.html

and then there's this sweet lookin little CENTURY 4 door. The chrome looks good from where I'm sittin. Wonder if that is original paint. If so this could be a nice deal. Not a lot of 4 door Century's around.

That car in the ebay auction has an odd speedometer. It has a needle pointer with an odometer. Not from a 55 Mr. E

I suppose it could be a standard 55 Special speedometer as redlines were special order on 40 series. But I had made my previous statement of the speedometer/gauge cluster being a from a 55 based on all the gauge hands being red vs white as in '54. But even at that, you're right, the standard Century speedo would have been a red line. So then I thought OK maybe it is a standard 55 Special speedo. But THEN I noticed the gauge cluster is actually a 54 because the 55's have a different center to it. SO currently I am going with an assumption that somebody painted the 54's speedo and gauge hands RED.

I saw that one tonight.... not a fan... The missing grille trim looks like someone removed its lips and I've never been too keen on shaved door handles. I'm more of the school of thought that update as much as you want while making it look original... but to each their own

IMO... Poor custom job. Actually might look better to just go ahead and shave the front bumper. Seller says reserve is $4,300. Looking at the interior, I bet it was a pretty nice car to start with. What a shame to see a nice 4 door Century like this. Would take too much work and $$ to ever get it back to original or to the stage of being a nice custom.

If I can get it running, yes. I'm having starting problems, and with the weather I can't get out there to work on it, and I have no garage. I could take it to a friend's garage, but it quit in the driveway. I drove it in, and next day...no start. Everything else worked, just not the starter. I need to crawl under it, and I need warmer and drier weather for that.. Keep your fingers crossed...it's coming.. and I'll get it going..

is a 54 skylark really worth that money in that condition?

not really, probably about $15,000 more.

just got an email back from the seller, pics are now in the CL ad

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/4326333052.html

the real Kelsey Hays wheels and rechromed tail lights are probably worth half the askin.

if I were either rich or younger, I'd be lookin for a hauler
