Thriller
I haven't checked price guides recently, but I'm wondering if the first couple of prices are in line with reality. I guess hardtops are up there, but the description for the Super convertible really inflates the restored value by about double. I can see that MrEarl is torn...between getting more '54 Buick friends and expanding Buick Gardens.

I can see that MrEarl is torn...between getting more '54 Buick friends and expanding Buick Gardens. The work on Buick Gardens is complete, I have enough 54 projects to last me until I'm 140, but I can never have enough '54 Buick friends,... FRIEND D, I think you can see from looking at the bottom line of El Diablo's '54 Buick Price Guide below, that your investment a few years back in 54 stock was pretty damn good. (Y'all...I'll bet he shows this to Suzanne right away) http://www.hometownbuick.de/1954/content/1954_buick_prices.xlsI have to slightly disagree re the restored value of the Super Convertible. I believe any mid fifties Buick convertible in a good color choice and totally correct restoration, has the potential to easily bring 75-100K. I strongly suspect Middleton will agree with me. And too will immediately show this the price guide to his wife. Edited February 6, 2011 by MrEarl to BS with Derek (see edit history)

Thriller
I'm not disagreeing per se...and I know the limitations of price guides...I had just checked a couple price guides that had the top price of a 56C under $50k. I see NADA shows higher. Actually, I bought the car in 2008 at pretty close to the April 2008 Average price, so as an average car, it hasn't increased in value that much since then. Granted, I would like to think of the car as perhaps better than average...it did earn a silver. I don't think it would get to that high retail number, but who am I to say? There have been a couple for sale for a while around $30k. There isn't much point in showing Suzanne...this car is a keeper, so its value is less important as a dollar figure than something to enjoy. If I were to sell it, well, there's a dog house outside I'm sure I'd be able to use, not to mention the children disowning me...as it is, they are occasionally bickering about who will eventually get which car. MrEarl
Folks the little 4 door Specials and Century's are a joy to drive. Just right for going to the grocery store or parts store. here's one up Cleveland way...1954 Buick four door Sedanhere's one you can drive home from the Nationals in Julyhttp://norwich.ebayclassifieds.com/classic-cars/voluntown/1954-buick-special/?ad=7758753and here is a confused seller. The pictures show a Super but the ad is for a Century. And he states it is a 3 speed. A 3 speed 56R is RARE!!!!! Probably more so than the 3 speed Century's. I've seen a 52R (four door Super) with 3 speed but never a 56R two door. http://southbend.craigslist.org/cto/2179359814.html Edited February 9, 2011 by MrEarl (see edit history)
MrEarl
I talked to the seller of these three cars back before I bought the Texas Pete Special. Had he been closer we probably would have made a deal. But the cost of hauling three non running cars that far killed it for me. 1954 Buick Cars and Parts
MrEarl
I have looked at this one. It has come down about $1400 in price in the last 2 months but in my opinion still has about $1200 to go. I think she just wants to get their money out of it and out of the yard. It's near Atlanta, not Chattanooga. 1954 Buick special

Keep watching Lamar...perhaps the price will come down enough for it to become a Buick Garden flower.Oh, thanks to Pete Philips, I already have my small body hard top and love it. And going to look at that Atlanta car made me appreciate mine even more. Unless I win the lottery and can afford to buy one each of all 1954 series, I think the only car left for me to ever consider would be if I could find Breeze. The little 48-D that started it all back in '71.

MrEarl
Just talked to this feller in Lansing MI just off hwy 127. For $1,200 you can get you a running, driving lil 2 door c-dan. All new brake lines, flex hoses, & rebuilt cylinders. new shoes and rebuilt master cylinder. New exhaust. Original interior, seats and headliner in good condition. Windshield cracked and a few quarter size rust spots on lower front fender, rockers, floors and where the back glass meets the top of the fender. 66K miles showing and he doesn't think it's 166K. Says the county is after him to get some cars out of his yard so it is priced to sell. 1954 Buick SpecialAnybody close enough to go take a peek? MrEarl
Thanks for bringing that video up Bob. I can never get enough of watching and listening to that that awesome Buick. That car sold about two years ago for I believe the mid 30's. There have always been two special Buick's that I have dreamed of just riding in. Thanks to Robert E Coker, one dream came true last summer. I will drive a Roadmaster to Mexico some day to ride in El Buick #115. OK 54 aficionados, there are at least three original parts on this Buick Century that are incorrect. Can you spot them.<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/30ctZtFYwHA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aSqYjDGNZok" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/kluFzXBySro" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
MrEarl
And here is the Century in Atlanta that's still available. I took this one for a test drive and checked it out pretty thoroughly. One of my favorite 54 (and 55) colors,Gulf Turquoise. I could with good conscience recommend it for around $8,000.00. 1954 Buick Centry 2 door hardtop VERY RARE! Thriller
Bit of a contrast there with the red and black interior in the Gulf Turquoise car. Alas I'm not in a buying phase / mood right now unless an extreme deal lands in my lap (and no, I don't think I've mentioned the '73 Centurion for sale locally to Suzanne). Bleach
I was thinking a wagon would be neat but it looks like the production numbers were lower than the convertibles so I'm guessing one would be hard to find or would be as expensive as a convert. My next choice would be any model with factory A/C. In any case whatever I end up looking for will need to be in fairly good shape and within 50 miles or so of where I live. My wife refuses to go on any more long distance road trips to bring back a car. She got burned out on the last few plus those cars turned out to be real "winners".
